How to pose for Engagement Photo Session
5 Best Poses for Couples for Engagement Photos
Engagement photos are a fun way to celebrate and have fun. It is also a new opportunity to get pictures together, while the engagement is fresh and the emotions are high.
And why not? So to help I want to share some of the tips and poses so that you can have some idea what is possible and what you prefer.
It is also a good time to get to know your photographer (me) :D anyway let’s get into this
1. The Timeless Embrace
You know that feeling when you hug your partner and the time stops for that moment?
Well it is seen also on photographs. You can go for a classic hug, or have your partner wrap your hands around you. Men you will be back and put your hands around your partner to make the female slimmer.
However great with this pose is that it works other way around as well. And also in sitting.
Why to not have this beautiful reminder on display?
2. Moment before a Kiss.
You know the moment before a kiss? Not yet touching but you cannot look away.
Being close to your partner has many functions.
One of which is that you will be present, you will be in the moment with your love.
Not thinking about something else, but captivated by the vastness of your partners eyes.
Your foreheads can also be touching, and there are slight variations to explore.
Action :How to explore you are in that moment? You can try it if you two are most eager :D just record yourself a video, and then you will see how both of you will start to slowly move.
It will create a lovely mood and kind of mindful presence. Enjoy yourselves.
3. Hand to Hand combat style, aka Walking together
No combat, just joking, but anyway like in romantic comedies,
Imagine, your partner is wrapped around your arm, the Sun-rays peeking through the sky so you have that sweet golden outline. Both of you shining and smiling.
How to make this fun and not cliche? By making it super cliche! Lean into it, it will create authentic laughter and silliness.
What is great it works in almost any setting, and it sets a nice feeling of a journey you have decided to go on together.
Adventure time! I always try to have fun and really good time on engagement photoshoot.
4. The Turn, the Lift and the Escalator walk into a bar
What I love is to see couples interact with each other in the moment.
Like dancing, you are moving and forgetting how to ‘correctly’ look and where do I have to have this hand and other. So like this, having a small and slow spin and then also if you have wavy flowy dresses, it moves with you and looks perfect on camera.
The lift is when you pick up partner of the ground, or they jump on you and you have to embrace that.. one way or another, its just good old fun
Another idea is to do a trust fall.
They are great to add playfulness, movement and energy. Makes it lighter for your brains to not too much and really be in the moment.
5. Sitting pose
There are so many great ways to do this one.
Lean on each other,
rest your head on ones chest or lap
wrap your arms around your partner
It is great for when to relax, and even if you get to a pose that is just a starting point. You make it your own by being yourself.
General Tips on Posing
1. Relax, Breathe, Notice, let go
Just be yourself, right?
We all have heard this before, and how to do this? Don’t worry, you can just notice what is happening, if you notice any tension, any trying, any story in your head.
You notice, acknowledge, yeah this is happening now in this moment,
and shift your focus to the sounds around you, colors, and what you feel some materials, stone, wooden bench, grass, trees.
Great photos are when we are present and relaxed, don’t worry about the posing and be here. Drink, eat, and recognize: Oh right I am engaged with the love of my life.
2. Use what is around you
If you are near street food you like, have some :) and create some photos with it
that is of course you are hungry :D But yeah even this can be incorporated into the photographs
Sit in shadow of a tree,
Lie down under its branch and watch the clouds,
Run and try to catch one another.
Final Thoughts on engagement shoots
My favorite moments are when they are spontaneous and on the other hand really quiet and intimate. I like to have both for you so you can enjoy all these moments.
The pose can be a starting point and from there you make it your own.
Remember to make it fun, it’s for you.
You can have it on the wall as a reminder, so that every time you walk past by your engagement photos you feel that warm fuzzy feeling.
